Sandal Cougars 46 Keighley 3
Keighley travelled to Sandal, looking to stop The Cougars from winning their 8th straight league win, the home side knew that a win would take them to the top of the league.
The match started very scrappily, and The Cougars were unable to exert any real dominance. Sharp footwork from Hodson created an overlap for Pearce to score, 5-0. Hodson himself was next to score, demonstrating footwork seen on the TV programme ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, conversion added by Edge, 12-0.
The Cougars were starting to dominate the game with the forwards and backs out playing their opponents. Thurlow scorched away from inside his own half for a well taken try, conversion added, 19-0. Edge got on the try sheet just before half time, 24-0.
The second half continued in the same vain, Wicks scored from close range, 29-0 and the rampant Tom Hirst showed excellent speed for his try, conversion added, 36-0. Kieghley were struggling for field position as they were playing up hill and into the wind. They did not help themselves by kicking to the rampaging bull, Purcell, no fewer than 5 times from restarts and he made them pay every time!
The home side continued to totally dominating all facets of play, Livsey and Bott providing the grunt in the scrum and L. Hunt and Evetts keeping the Kieghley backs out. Edge scored his second of the afternoon. Thurlow bagged his brace to put The Cougars 46-0 up. With a few minutes remaining Kieghley were awarded a penalty and opted to kick, 46-3.
This was a very good performance from a strong Cougars side and they will look to continue their good form next week against Pontefract at home
