Sandal Cougars 26 Skipton 10
After winning comfortably away at Skipton a few weeks before, Sandal expected a more resilient Skipton side this time out and the visitors did not let themselves down bringing to the game bulk and strong running. Sandal to their credit have built their game on a strong defence and the ability to turn possession into points. Sandal’s front row of Luke Norbury, James Chappell and James Purcell excelled in the tight and superior fitness allowed them to link up at the breakdown, each grabbing a try apiece to demoralise the opposition. Skipton claimed a try and a penalty for their efforts but the last words belonged to Sandal. From a Skipton attack, the visiting fly-half dummied his way past his markers and rounded the winger only for the tackle of the match as Scott Seckham came out of nowhere to hit him head on. After a delay for treatment, Sandal claimed possession at the line and worked upfield for Dan Hodson to find space in the defence to cross the line. Two conversions from Edge sealed the match. A buoyant Sandal Cougars travel with their first team to Scarborough this Saturday.
