Sandal 39 Bridlington 0
Sandal continued their unbeaten start to the season with their tenth consecutive league win in a bruising encounter against a physical Bridlington side. Apart from one early penalty kick at goal and a five minute spell in the second half when the Bridlington pack tried to force their way over, the home line never looked like being breached. Sandal opened the scoring on ten minutes from a well struck penalty by fly half Tom Smith which was followed shortly after by the first try when good hands saw winger Simon Frewin outstrip the defence to cross wide out to increase his side’s lead to eight points. Five minutes later crisp hands from a scrum on half way saw full back Chris Reakes enter the line and his angled run took him beyond the defence to outpace the Bridlington cover to cross for the second try. Again Smith converted. In spite of the wet conditions not being conducive to handling the home side continued to move the ball around well and were rewarded when Simon Frewin appeared on the opposite wing and round the cover for his second try of the game. With fly half Smith again converting to leave the home side twenty two points up at half time and the game essentially over as a contest.
As with the previous Saturday the second half proved somewhat of an anti-climax as the wet conditions conspired against flowing rugby but Sandal scored two further tries through man of the match Sam Tee who ran a flat line to cross under the posts and no. 8 Richard Wade who scored following a midfield move. The initial break saw flanker Sean Maguire power his way to the line only to be stopped inches short but he then feed his back row colleague with fly half Smith converting both efforts.
A late penalty from Smith saw Sandal home by a clear thirty nine points without reply and looking forward to the half way point in the season and in particular their next fixture when they visit third placed Scarborough.
