Heath 5 Sandal 22
Sandal took a massive step towards the Yorkshire One league title with this controlled win at West Vale and they now need just one win from their remaining two games to secure a return to North 2 East. The Milnthorpe Green men started the game at pace and from the outset had their opponents on the back foot but it was the home side who opened the scoring on the half hour when good hands saw their winger cross in the corner. Sandal came straight back and a clean break by fly half Tom Smith saw him feed centre Ben Brindley who dived over between the posts with Smith converting and then following with a penalty shortly after to give his side a ten point to five lead at half time.
With captain Sean Maguire leading his side from the front the second half saw Sandal take total control of possession, field position and the match. They kept their discipline and with it possession realising that the pressure would ultimately bring points. In spite of threatening to score on several occasions the superbly committed defence of the home side, however, restricted them to two well struck penalties and a drop goal from Tom Smith and a long distance penalty from full back Chris Reakes but the final whistle saw Sandal retain top spot and move closer to lifting the league title.
