Sandal 43 Huddersfield YMCA 0
Sandal maintained their hold on top spot in Yorkshire One with a comfortable win against their relegation threatened opponents from Huddersfield to remain three points clear of their nearest promotion rivals Ilkley with four matches of the season remaining.
Sandal got off to the worst possible start when losing captain Matt Hemingway through injury in the first minute of the game. In difficult windy conditions Sandal managed only three tries in the first forty minutes from a brace by in-form no. 8 Richard Wade and one from winger Simon Frewin. This was despite dominating the first half and with winger Dave Ell looking threatening whenever in possession. Half time came with Sandal leading 15 nil.
After some straight talking from the coaching team at half time the Milnthorpe Green men kept their structure in the second half which resulted in two quality tries from hooker Sam Tee, and one each from centre Danny Mitchell and a first try for young prop Ash Norbury with fly half Tom Smith converting all four second half tries.
Sandal now need to win three of their last four league games to ensure promotion and the Yorkshire One league title.
