Sandal 39 Pocklington 3
Sandal eased into the quarter finals of the Yorkshire Shield and a home tie against either Bridlington or Selby as they ran away with this tie in the second half. Pocklington took an early lead with a penalty following a Sandal indiscretion at a ruck but the home side continued to move the ball from all areas of the field and they were rewarded on twenty minutes when no. 8 Richard Wade powered his way clear on half way and fed his supporting back row colleague Sean Maguire whose pace took him over from forty metres. The visitors continued to defend bravely but elusive Sandal full back Scott Seckham broke through for the second time from fifty metres and this time he side-stepped the full back to cross to the right of the posts with fly half Tom Smith converting to give his side a twelve point to three lead at the break.
Within minutes of the re-start the game was effectively over when a loose pass on the visiting twenty two metre line from the Pocklington fly half saw home centre Danny Mitchell pounce to score his side's third try of the afternoon. From this point on Sandal took complete control of the match with winger Simon Frewin using his outstanding pace to collect a brace of tries and man of the match full back Scott Seckham seizing his opportunity by showing pace, elusiveness and finally power to complete his hat trick. With fly half Tom Smith converting one of the tries Sandal took the honours and moved into the last eight but had certainly been made to work hard by their Yorkshire Two opponents.
