Saturday sees another challenge for Sandal in the shape of Hull, who sit 4th in the league having won 4, lost 2 and drawn 1.
Last season saw Hull win both encounters and from attending the match over in Hull, I felt they looked a very good outfit with strength all across the park. To be honest, I'm not surprised at their position and expect them to challenge for promotion this term. A glance at the Hull website and linked match reports will highlight that they are still an attacking force and look to play an expansive game. Their defeats have come when their game plan is frustrated through strong defence and not coping with the elements. However, their potency in attack cannot be underestimated and Sandal will need to perform very well to get a result.
As for us, there is a great team spirit and we have a strong platform in the scrum to build on. For me, the difference this season is that the midfield is very congested which is a direct result of law changes around the contact area. You now see teams preferring not to compete (in the main) which results in players covering the field in defence. I'm not a fan of this as the aim to speed the game up hasn't produced a better game. It has probably led to more contact and bigger hits. Its the same for both teams and I know we've been working hard to create the space we need.
The Twitter feed is rested this Saturday as I'm attending a family wedding. So if you can, please come down to the club and support the team.
