The challenge for us this week is whether we can put two positive results together for the first time this season. Against Birkenhead Park we defended resolutely and showed a flair in attack that was a threat every time we had possession. This was more like the Sandal we know.
Added into the mix this week is that the win will allow us to climb another place up the table and close the gap to those above. We currently stand 10 points behind 6th placed Wirral and our next 3 matches are against those 10th (Kendal, currently 3 points ahead), 7th (Kirby Lonsdale, currently 9 points ahead) and 9th (Rossendale, currently 6 points ahead). With our talent and capability, we should be looking for the run to Xmas to yield positive results and push us up the table; challenging ourselves to consistently perform to our potential.
Kendal will be no push over. Though they lost at home last week against Billingham, they have in the last few weeks drawn against Lymm (probably the best attacking side we've seen this season) and beaten Rossendale. Though last season saw us beat Kendal at home, we conspired to lose the game across the Pennines after what I can only describe as a difficult performance!
Saturday's weather looks bright, but crisp. However, there is plenty of time for drizzle to develop before the weekend.
Join us at the club for a pie, pint and good rugby.
Onwards!
