Sandal 2s made the long trip to Alnwick filled with confidence, and after the first 5 minutes had every right to feel so. Ben reynolds returned a kick well. Strong carries followed from Kittrick, Ohara and Hoyland, setting the platform for seckham to break line from 30metres and round the full back. This is the blue print and was almost the perfect 2nd team try.

A similar try followed from Kittrick after a number of phases. The try of the match however came from centre Hoyle. King carried twice in the build up and was supported by good carries from Kittrick and Jarvis. The play was rounded off with a brilliant backs move with vickers and Buttler linking, with the latter putting seckham through a gap on midfield. He had centre partner Hoyle in support.

Unfortunately in between 3 great tries, alnwick were able to impose their style of play, dominating set piece and aggressive at the break down. The game became more and more scrappy, which suited alnwick and there were able to score tries in key moments to stay in touch.

A yellow card to king and ill timed injuries to King, Kittrick and AJ added to the pressure to that which Alnwick applied and unfortunately we couldn’t hold onto the lead.

Despite coming away with the loss, there were many positives to come from the toughest game of the season so far.
