Sandal 2s vs York 2s

The double header certainly didn’t disappoint. A 12 try thriller where at times defence was optional was played out on the castle pitch in front of the largest 2nd team crowd of the season.
As has been the way in the last few games, sandal flew out the blocks and took an early lead with a fantastic try. Bacon sent reynolds screaming through a gap and then was in support for the offload and put Zak in out wide. What ended up been a recurring theme of the day, the conversion was missed.
York came back into the game and scored a nice try from a scrum with a kick through and then took the lead not long after. The lead changed hands a number of times in the first half. A consistent throughout the half was sandals significantly heavier pack provided plenty of go forward and was a threat close to line.
In the words of the eloquent Michael Knowles, ‘Mega when mega, utter shite when not’. The game was chaotic and needed a calming influence.
The good news for the near capacity crowd was that this absolutely did not happen right up until the final 15 minutes. At this point York had taken the biggest lead the game had seen and were up by 2 scores.
A period of try line defence provided sandal with a bit of confidence and following a penalty and we’re eventually rewarded working the ball all the way up the field to score. From the resulting kick off, Hanson carried well, as he did all day. This was followed with a couple of carries in quick succession from AJ and after a period of ball on the York try line, reynolds picked the right pass at the right time to put JK in the corner. Unsurprising the conversion was missed and we had a 1 point game.
Sandal were able to score again, again the conversion missed. The game finished in a befitting manner. Selecting 7 props in the matchday 20 was rewarded with a scrum penalty and a bonus point win secured.
