In a closely fought game with both sides able to build pressure at different times, sandal finished the 1st half 10 points up thanks to 2 tries from AJ and both goals and a penalty from Barlow. Both sandal tries and the Heath try all can from close range despite both teams looking threatening in wider channels.
The 2nd half started well for the visitors and they reduced the lead to 7 points with an early penalty. The game became even closer following a King yellow card and but for the efforts of Hulme cleaning up a kick on the line and Vickers as the last line of defence making an important 1 on 1 tackle, the game may well have finished differently.
Centre partnership Seckham and Hoyle grew into the game and in the end became too much for Heath to cope with. Fittingly the try of the game came from the 2 combining to score from 60 out. A further try came from a similar play which allowed Vickers to cross out wide and the final try came from forwards doing unforward like things.
Prop forward Hodgkiss found himself ‘out the back’ and commanded the ‘3 ball’. He then gracefully skipped out and drew the defended before putting Reynolds down the wing. Reynolds in perhaps unnecessary fashion, flew into the corner and grounded the ball whilst in flight.
