The Uruk-Hai march on, but in an absolute thriller that ultimately was decided by conversions and a key penalty. 45-43 probably says just as much about the attacks of both teams as it does about the defence.
Sandal tries in the 1st half came from Cherry Atkinson Hali and Bailey. All in the slightly different circumstances, Bailey crashed over from close range, Hali had a nice show and go and cherry hit a great line and rounded the full back. The try of the game however and contender for try of the season was atkinson. A set play from a scrum on the 22 freed handley who in turn got on the outside shoulder and put atkinson in the clear. With 60+ metres to go and a baying 1st team watching, rather than stepping inside atkinson paced his winger, dummied the full back and had the pace the beat the covering defence.
Sandal will have been disappointed with how they defended in the first where we were largely dominant and score at the half was 28-17.
The second half can really only be described as carnage and hard to articulate. Cherry and RTC both scored great individual tries but credit to sheff tigers, they never went away and played some great rugby themselves.
Crucially Vickers hasn’t missed a kick and with 10 to go sandal kicked a penalty to get into a 16 point lead. Then carnage.
A sin bin, and a try conceded took the lead down to 9 with 3 minutes left.
A deep kick off, an immediate penalty given away. The ball worked down the field and a try scored. The lead was now 2 and when asked the ref replied 10 seconds to go.
Again a deep kick off, this time no penalty and after a couple of phases a fantastic tackle from Noah knocked the ball into to touch, much to the relief of the home crowd.
Final score sandal 45 sheff tigers 43.
