League 3rd place Vs. 2nd Place showdown

The conditions were excellent for this league clash between 3rd place Sandal second team and 5th place Pocklington seconds. Their last game at Pocklington in 2017 was played on a snow covered pitch where Pocklington beat Sandal well. Sandal were therefore revved up for this game, maybe too revved because Pocklington were given their worst result of the season with fired up Sandal beating them 87 points to 12.

Nick King, prop, opened the scoring for Sandal 5 minutes in with Barlow getting the extras. Then new left winger Charlie Been finished off a series of passes to score in the corner, 12 nil to Sandal. Ten minutes in, Will Kettel right wing received a good ball from hooker Jamie Bingle and avoiding tackles sprinted from the half way to touch down under the sticks Jacob Barlow converted. Minutes later with the ball going wide then back inside, scrum half George Hulme received the ball and scored to the right of the posts, 26 nil to Sandal. On the 25 min Bingle and Kettel's inter-passing on the right wing allowed Will Kettel to score his second in the corner. Pocklington responded with a good try.
Sandal backs sharp passing put center Scott Seckham over for a try near the posts 38 -5 to Sandal. Pocklington responded again with an excellent backs try 38 - 12. Kettel sealed his hat trick from a quick penalty by George Hulme going right to allow a touch down under the post. The final try for the half came from a great solo run by Back Row Jimmy Stewart. Half time score 52 -12

The second half started with Jamie Bingle taking the high ball offloading to Andy Miller Scrum half who darted forward and passed the ball to Second Row Nathan Spurr to score. Ever alert Jimmy Stewart got his second try by pouncing on a Pocklington fumble, sprinting 25 meters to score under the posts, 66-12.

Jamie Bingle finally got his try from a Scott Cranmer kick then a ruck with Spurr gaining the ball powering forward and offloading to Bingle who sprinted 25 meters to score. The 80 points mark came with an excellent solo try by center Scott Seckham. The final try deservedly came from Scott Cranmer the Sandal Stand off who gets his back line working well, on this occasion he dummied to them and glided through the Pocklington line to score.

It must be said that Pocklington had a good second half and spent the majority in the Sandal 22. Unfortunately for them great Sandal defence denied them the try.

It must be mentioned that out of the 13 tries scored Jacob Barlow converted 11 of them, an excellent effort. The man of the match went to Kettel who got his hat trick of tries. Next week Sheffield Medics away.

Our sympathy and concern goes to prop Nick King who had to leave the pitch with a fractured wrist.
