On a bright and sunny day the Mini Beasts made the trip over to Thorn for a hastily rearranged festival at Thornesians. Some parents even liked the drive along the M62 so much they even decided to do it twice! (Small tip: remember to pack the gun shields)

They played four games against some excellent teams and game out on the favourable side of the try count in each game.

The mini beasts get better each week, today showing how dominant they are becoming in defence by only conceding 2 tries all day. Their attack is getting stronger with some excellent team tries and combination passing seen in each game.

As coaches we could not be prouder of them, the majority of the team had never played rugby before the start of the season and they are such a wonderful team. Seeing how they happy they all were to see two teammates score their first tries of the season shows what a great team they are and how they support each other.

With everyone showing individual brilliant at some point it’s getting harder and harder to pick out players of the week. Awards though went to Darcie and Poppy who were everywhere, bossing the tackles, dominating the rucks and appearing all over the pitch with ball in hand.
Alice was as strong as ever chopping down the opposition and beasting the breakdown.
She definitely doesn’t get it from her Dad but Lily again showed us how good her footwork is, creating space where there isn’t any and was a nuisance to the opposition at scrum half.
Amelie was incredible and is a brilliant new addition to the team, going on a solo defensive effort with a string of 4 strong tackles in the space of 20 seconds at one point but running well and showing her passion in all games.
Once her Dad finally showed up with her gum shield Letty also showed us what a strong addition she is, great in defence and hard to stop with ball in hand.
Lexi played her first game in a Sandal shirt, fitting in well and combining with the girls in both attack and defence.
Ruby grows week on week, her boot at kick offs is phenomenal and her tackling was brilliant today.
With her first ever try today Rose showed how far she’s come this year. She seemed to be everywhere on the pitch in the last two games and the try is a fitting reward for all her hard work.
Freya also scored her maiden try today, powering through what seemed to be a never ending stream of the opposition to touch down. Hopefully her Mums voice has survived all the celebrating and everyone else’s ears have stopped ringing.Again another player showing us just how far she’s come.
Tamzin, who played with Sandal today seemed to smile from start to finish and was a brilliant addition to the team.

Lastly and not least big thanks to Pollyanna who’s still out of action but came to support her teammates, keeping scores and providing stationary to those in need.

Lastly a massive thanks to all at Thornesians who put today on at really short notice plus a big shout out to all the other coaches jumping in and making it work to make sure all the girls from all the clubs felt included and got some game time.
