Sandal faced unbeaten West Leeds with a strong squad looking to reverse a loss in the corresponding away league fixture.
And Sandal got off to a flying start. Within minutes from kick off the ball raced through hands to reach full back Jack Cherry who sped in to score down the right wing. After strong exchanges in the pack West Leeds started to take control as Sandal allowed the opposition too much space to score 3 tries in succession. Sandal rallied as the pack took on the opposition with strong performances in the set piece. After a series of drives the forwards fell short but Cameron Allen was on hand to get the ball over the line. A conversion by Mihali Joannou meant the teams were separated by only 3 tries to 2 at half time.
West Leeds took control in the second half as Sandal failed to put enough defensive pressure on the opposition. Sandal's scrum and line out did however remain strong but it wasn't enough to allow West Leeds to cross the line 4 times in the second period. Sandal did continue to push hard and there were some very good moments of play. A forward drive was finished by captain Calvin Mitchell with the conversion by Joannou. The 4th try by Kobe Poaching followed a great exchange of passes with Will Joyce. The final score reflected a deserved win for West Leeds but left the Sandal team wondering what could have been with greater consistency and defensive effort.
