On a beautiful warm sunny morning without a breath of wind Sandal entertained Cleckheaton at Milnthorpe Green. The Scoreline suggests a rout but make no mistake Sandal were made to work hard for this win against a big Cleck pack. With possession around 50/50 the difference was the fluency in Sandals attack and with full back Will Forrest hitting the line at pace and profiting with two tries and a maiden try for wing Gabe Ellis, Cleckheaton, despite some resolute defence had no answer to the variety of Sandals attack. Sandals kicking game had Cleckheaton guessing and Tom Stephenson proffited from a crossfied kick to pick up the ball on the bounce and score wide out. Hooker, Will towler, who found himself on the wing also scored from a carbon copy kick to the corner. Max Hanson scored a trade mark try by straightening the line and crashing over and Ed Willcock jinked through the defence to dot down under the sticks to complete the scoring. The score could have been greater if it wasnt for some tremendous cover tackling by Cleckheaton.
Liam Stephenson had his best game in a Sandal shirt by making some tremendous hits. Darren Tharby cut through the away defence with some strong running. Will Bubb was very good backing up in the loose however it was Will Forrest who won the MOTM award with a faultless display from full back.
A good run out but still far from the finished article and a lot of work to do in defence and attack.
