Sheffield were the team to face Sandal today 15.01.17. This match was of particular importance to Dominic Wallis and Ross Evans who had both played for the Sheffield club before joining Sandal.
Sandal were quick out of the blocks and soon on the score sheet. Good possession around the break down, ruck and maul allowed the ball to be passed cleanly to the strong attacking support players. Sandal were equally as good in defence, with Sheffield being restricted to playing rugby in their own half.
Changes in the second quarter allowed Sheffield to reply with two well worked tries of their own as the Sandal defence went to sleep, losing it's formation. Sandal huffed and puffed their way through to prevent any further scoring opportunities.
A much improved performance was evident in the third and fourth quarters of the game as the balance within the team was restored. Each and every player demonstrating improvements to their game play individually and collectively. Sandal were playing with pride and passion, attacking at every opportunity, although Sheffield were determined to restrict scoring opportunities by making Sandal work hard in order to create scoring opportunities. Sandal were also proving dogged in defence with Matthew's last ditch tackle preventing Sheffield from scoring a certain try being one of the matches defensive highlights.
Overall, a great display against a strong, disciplined Sheffield team.
Todays tries scored by Oliver, James, Joseph, Jack, Ben Levine, Joe McGowan.
Well done!
