Sandal traveled to Old Rish with many of the players that were not in action in the previous weeks Y Cup semi final, and with both teams boasting plenty of players it was agreed to play full size and four quaters.
Sandal scored 1st and the boys must have thought that this was going to be easy...always a mistake! As Old Rish posted three tries without Sandal touching the ball. Its fair to say that it took the Sandal lads a good quater and a half to get used to the size of the pitch but when they did they played some good phases and posted two unanswered tries to take the score to 21-21 at half time.
The third quater was spent mostly in Old Rishes half and a further sublime try and conversion to the Milnthorpe boys took the score to 21-28 to Sandal and we were looking comfortable, however in the 4th quater, with Sandal making some rotation & positional changes, some slack Sandal marking let in Old Rish again and this lifted their spirits and the volume of their suppoters cheers, scoreline 28-28. Sandal were now tiring and Old Rish finished with a flourish and scored a further two tries and the crowd really did go wild!
Try scorers for Sandal were Sam Hawcroft, Tom Stephenson, Will Bubb and Oli Wigglesworth and Max Hanson added four goals to complete the scoring.
An interesting experiment & a good mornings rugby.
Well done boys!
