2XV report vs York
Sandal were extremely grateful to the York players who made the journey down on numbers as it meant that 24 Sandal lads got a game of rugby and 3 under 18s who had been through the dispensation process were able to make their senior debuts- Joe McCann, Caleb Green and Oli Bostwick who all had really strong games. A huge thank you also goes to Jo Denver, Deacon Burton, Anthony Dorling, Callum Evans and Connor Everington who all at points in the game played for York in order to keep it 15 aside.
The first 15 or 20 minutes of the game were for large parts competitive. Although Sandal took a 2 score lead, there was period of play where York were in the Sandal 22 and threatening to score.
Once the 3rd try was scored, unfortunately the flood gates opened and Sandal were able to run in further tries before the half was up. Highlights included debutants Will Enright, Joe McCann and Oli Bostwick crossing to score.
Conditions didn’t dampen Sandal’s ability to move the ball and attack from deep. Once again a solid scrum set Sandal up nicely to attack from all parts of the pitch, the moment this really came to fruition was down a blind side, with Joel popping to Hulme from the back of the scrum, drawing the first defender before brilliant hands Enright set Cal free down the sideline to score.
The second half continued in the same manner as a latter part of the first half. While the game was stopped 15 minutes early, there was enough time for Sandal to score a couple of well worked tries. The best off which was Freddie’s try, which came from Vickers organising and finding a pod of forwards led by Joel, who tipped the ball behind his support player to find Vinny who in turn put Freddie free.
Try scorers: McCann x2, Mountain, Bostwick, Beeney, Enright, Evans, Lambert, Adams
Conversions: Vickers x6
Man of match: Freddie Lambert
Final score: Sandal 57 York 0
Many thanks JRD
